Abilene High student parking stalls vandalized

ABILENE, TX — On the eve of Abilene High’s first day of school some seniors are ready for tomorrow. But others like Jose-Daniel Garcia, 17, are repairing damage.

Over the weekend, about 15 to 20 senior parking stalls, painted by the students, were vandalized.

“I’m very upset, my son did all of this to show his teachers he appreciates them,” said Roseann Garcia, Jose’s mom.

Some were splattered with paint others like Jose’s spot had profanity.

“I just got paid Tuesday before Wednesday,” said Jose. “It was a little paycheck because I took a week off. So I had just enough to buy all of the paint I needed.”

Jose started painting his space last Wednesday, spent $35 on the stall and about $130 on paint he used to craft his own space.

“The two schools I got to now, Abilene and ATEMS,” said Jose. “ In the middle is just a graduation hat with the year I’m graduating, this year.”

This Abilene Eagle will repair the damage done because no setback will keep him from soaring.

“Was it really worth it to really come vandalize this,” said Jose. “If you get caught you will have some sort of punishment.”

The Abilene Independent School District released this statement to us:

“Video surveillance captured individuals in the parking lot but they are unrecognizable. AHS administrators have been able reach and inform all but one of the parents of students whose parking spot was vandalized. Most students and parents have returned to campus to repair the damage. Administration, with assistance from the AHS Student Resource Officer, is investigating.”
